The Pittsfield City Council on Aug. 27 approved a series of routine orders, appointments and grant acceptances.
Appointments: The council approved mayoral appointments including Eileen Peltier and Kim Borden to the Homeless Advisory Committee and named Councilor Conant to the School Building Needs Commission. The chief introduced permanent Captains Mark Strout and Matthew Hill in the Pittsfield Police Department; the appointments were approved unanimously.
Grants and financial orders: The council accepted a $150,840 grant from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and a $445,104 grant from the Massachusetts Clean Water Trust; both votes carried without recorded opposition. The council also approved a small previous-year expense of $437.50 to Tyler Technologies.
Rescissions and clarifications: An order rescinding $1,706,634 in authorized but unissued funds passed unanimously after staff explained many line items were completed, re-scoped or consolidated into broader authorizations, and that several projects had been closed or deferred.
Utility petitions: Public hearings to install a company-owned mid-span pole for Eversource on New York Avenue and a jointly owned pole for Verizon and Eversource on Tamarack Road were opened, discussed briefly with petitioner representatives (Nicole Scarborough for Eversource; Don Vaughner for Verizon) and approved unanimously.
Procedure: Several items were referred to committee as non-debatable where required; motions to accept communications and place reports on file were routine and approved.
What’s next: Council requested copies of consultant audit reports and invoicing tied to ARPA consultant lines; staff agreed to provide those documents to council members on request.
