Town of Babylon Rental Board orders repairs, grants extensions and approves a handful of permits

The Town of Babylon Rental Board met in public session and considered a series of rental-permit renewals and applications, directing repairs at multiple properties and granting extensions to allow work to be completed.

Chairman Sal Mingano opened the hearing and read procedures before the board took up the first case, a renewal for a property listed on the agenda as 11550 America Avenue in West Babylon. Dorothy Ashkar, who said she was the representative for the owner and was sworn for the record, confirmed she submitted the renewal and agreed to the town’s terms. Neighbors raised maintenance concerns: “the person who owns the house, the house is not up to par,” said neighbor James Scannapico, who added the owner lives out of state. Board members directed the owner to replace the entire driveway and repair siding/capping; the applicant was instructed to submit photos for reinspection. The board voted to extend the permit deadline to April 30 to allow the work to be completed (motion by Kelly Medwig; seconded by Carla Bryant).
