Commissioners table lease amendment to expand archery range; commissioner recuses himself

The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners tabled consideration of Amendment No. 1 to the lease with the Sheridan County Sportsmen's Association after county Parks & Recreation Board Chair Terry Whitesel recommended delaying the item until association representatives could present more details.
Whitesel told the board the additional land (on the western side of the association’s current lease) was formerly used as an equestrian range and is roughly 60 acres by his visual estimate; he had invited representatives from the Sportsmen’s Association but none attended. Commissioner Wright disclosed he would recuse himself from voting because the proposed leased land abuts his property and he asked not to participate in a vote affecting his property.
Commissioners asked for a map showing exact boundaries, explanations about intended uses beyond archery, and details about scheduling and public access before taking action. Commissioner Jennings moved to table the matter until the association can appear; the motion carried by voice vote and the item will return to the agenda when the association is available to present.
