County engineer: bridge nearly complete, Brook Street retainage withheld until work finished

County Engineer Ken Muller reported several transportation updates, including that the bridge project is essentially complete and that the county hired a district operator to restore full staffing.
"The bridge project's 99% complete. All we got left is seating and fence, and then it'll be complete," Muller told commissioners, noting favorable weather should allow remaining work to finish. He also said the county hired a district operator (Wyatt Stanley) to return the crew to full strength and is still recruiting temporary snowplow drivers.
Separately, when asked about Brook Street — which had a contract completion date at the end of November — county staff said the project remains in final pay with the retainage withheld. "That's, we're into the final pay up and 1 more, which is the retainage, and I haven't paid it," the staff speaker said, adding the county informed the contractor's engineer that no time extensions will be granted.
Muller also described ongoing coordination with NRCS and the conservation district for stream stabilization and erosion protection at Claiborne Park; an engineering RFP is ready but the county is awaiting NRCS confirmation on design funding.
