Post Falls streets staff outline 2024–25 snowplow staffing, equipment and new outreach program

Ross Junkin, streets maintenance manager, briefed the Post Falls City Council on winter operations and outreach for the 2024'25 season during the Nov. 19 meeting.
Junkin said the department currently has 17 of 20 full-time positions filled and continues hiring for leadership/mechanic roles. Equipment includes eight plow trucks and loaders recently purchased with gated plow deliveries expected soon; Junkin said he anticipated receipt of additional plows the following week. The department is testing weather-driven decision tools and will operate split day/night shifts during peak winter months.
For public outreach, streets staff will distribute a snow brochure, use social media, and launch a "paint a plow" program in which elementary students design artwork installed on the face of city loaders that will operate in their school zones.
Council thanked the department and staff for preparations; discussion noted safety concerns around snowpile tunnels created by children playing on large snow berms.
No council action was required.
