Kevin Palmer, Evergreen Cemetery sexton, gave the Post Falls City Council a detailed history and operations report on Nov. 19. Palmer said the land was donated in 1879, the first burial was in 1881, and the city assumed management in 1917. The cemetery is about 18 acres with approximately 13.5 developed acres and 4.5 acres available for future development.
Palmer said Evergreen has roughly 4,000 interments and about 900 veterans, and noted the cemetery completes about 88 services annually and recorded 106 headstone sales (22 of which were VA-provided). He described routine maintenance (mowing, irrigation, headstone setting), staffing (three full-time employees), and equipment operations. Palmer said the cemetery is beginning to plan for expanded cremation options (niches, scattering gardens, ossuaries) as burial patterns shift.
Council thanked Palmer and noted the cemetery's role in local history and community services. No council action was required.
