The presenter described Pesaro’s background as a University of Montana graduate who lives in Boise, has served on boards related to community garden projects in Coeur d'Alene, has publications in creative writing, and has run outreach programs including creative-writing work in Kootenai County Jail and readings in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities.
The commission noted the position’s duties, described the stipend as $1,500 per year for three years (totaling $4,500), and prepared to forward the appointment to the council on the consent calendar.
Next steps: the recommendation will be forwarded to the council for final approval and the city will coordinate the laureate’s outreach activities.
