Nicollet County adopts state of emergency as flood damage assessments continue

The Nicollet County Board adopted a state‑of‑emergency resolution related to recent flooding and received an update from emergency management on damage assessments and the path to federal assistance.
Emergency management staff asked the board to replace a previously signed June 25 document with the resolution format required by the state and said the change was largely procedural. The board adopted the new resolution by roll call: Commissioner Dehen, Commissioner Zinns, Commissioner Tranell, Commissioner Kolars and Commissioner Morrow all voted yes.
On damage assessments, emergency staff said 18 forms had been completed and sent to the state — 17 residential and one business — and cautioned that some areas remain underwater and inaccessible for assessment. Staff reported preliminary municipal totals for North Mankato exceed $100,000, and said the county must reach a FEMA county threshold of $158,488.40 to compel certain federal individual assistance triggers.
Emergency management asked residents to use the online damage assessment form under the "Emergency Management" tab of the Nicollet County website and said additional assessments are expected as water recedes and access improves.
