Paul Farnsworth was appointed acting chairman for the Dec. 19 meeting after board member Todd Johnson moved to make Farnsworth acting chair "for this meeting only," a motion Peter Kluszian seconded and the board approved by voice vote.
The board heard from staff that "there are no new complaints to report" from the Consumer Protection Department investigation division, and it postponed review and approval of the Sept. 19, 2024 meeting minutes until the next regularly scheduled meeting.
The meeting’s main substantive discussion centered on licensing requirements. Rochelle, a staff member, said the licensing-review item was carried forward from the September meeting and that she had not prepared new materials for this session. "I can certainly bring up the licensing page or anything like that if you guys wanna take a look," she said and offered to provide meeting dates and follow-up materials by email.
Board member Todd Johnson raised a specific concern about a prior licensing decision: "there was a license level that was granted above a level ... I believe, it was R1 over ... an R2, where they did not have the either taking the test or did not spend enough time, but it was still granted." Johnson urged that a board member attend licensing-review meetings to speak up when a license appears to have been approved at a higher classification without the expected testing or experience.
Chair Farnsworth and the board agreed to continue the licensing-review conversation at the next scheduled meeting so acting chairman DeRosa — who was not present — could report and so staff could provide documentation.
Staff announced 2025 meeting dates — March 20, June 26, Sept. 18 and Dec. 18 — and said she would send an email with those dates and a contact phone number for notifying absences or late arrivals.
The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The chair declared the Elevator Installation, Repair and Maintenance Work Examining Board meeting of Dec. 19, 2024 closed.
