Herndelyn Analista, a counselor at Guam Community College, asked the Mayor’s Council of Guam on Wednesday to help promote a local arm of the nationwide "Do the FAFSA" campaign and to share digital outreach materials with village residents.
"It's called hashtag do the FAFSA," Analista said, saying the local effort launched in late June and that the campaign’s incentive period runs through Sept. 24. GCC is offering daily submission workshops (Monday–Friday, 9–11 a.m. and 2–4 p.m., in rooms 5202–5204, building 5000) and will host submission clinics in villages so students can show proof of completion and claim rewards.
Analista said incentives are modest and intended to encourage completion: each FAFSA completer is eligible to claim about $25 in rewards such as gas coupons, movie tickets, GCC gear, prepaid phone/data cards and local gift certificates. Mayors were told GCC will accept digital proof via a Google form linked from a QR code on handouts; Analista offered to send a digital packet of flyers and the QR card for mayors to share in village WhatsApp groups and other platforms.
Mayors asked about eligibility and outreach logistics. Analista clarified students do not need to be enrolled to apply; any student who is eligible to attend college in the 2024–25 school year may complete FAFSA and then decide where to enroll. She said the program is not limited to GCC enrollees; students bound for other institutions, on-island or off-island, are eligible to participate and claim prizes.
GCC officials asked mayors to contact the Reach for College office for more information and to request the digital materials; Analista said staff will coordinate with the council secretary to disseminate files to all 19 villages. The council supported the outreach request and encouraged mayors to use village events and social channels to publicize the clinics and the QR form.
The council did not take a formal vote on the request; the presentation concluded with an offer by GCC to provide materials and follow-up support.
