At the Academic Matters Committee, Chancellor Glenn presented committee items 4–8 recommending distinguished service awards (including Edward Bendhouse) and honorary degree nominees such as Reginald E. Petty. The committee moved to approve the recommendations and the motion carried on a roll call vote. At Edwardsville, Chancellor Minor presented committee items 9–10 recommending a distinguished service award for Bruce Holland and an honorary doctorate for David L. Stewart Sr.; trustees approved both items after a roll call.
During the full board session Father Brown spoke in support of Reginald Petty’s nomination, recounting Petty’s decades of civil‑rights and international service and his long connection to East St. Louis and Southern Illinois University. The board acknowledged the public comment and noted the conferral will be announced at the May ceremony.
All nominations were approved as presented; trustees recorded votes in committee and on the board floor. The approvals permit the administration to proceed with conferral plans and related program recognitions at upcoming campus events.
