Hampton recognizes Joint Base Langley–Eustis for volunteer work in city

Brian Marchesse introduced the spotlight and told the council that “the service members of Joint Base Langley–Eustis not only serve our country with distinction, but also give their time and energy to improving our local community.” The proclamation cited previous JBLE Serves Day on June 21, 2024, and named specific local projects such as work at Bluebird Gap Farm and maintenance at Bassett Cemetery and Elmerton Cemetery.
The proclamation, read aloud by Mayor Donnie R. Tuck, noted partnerships between Langley Security Forces and the Hampton Police Division on training and event security, including support for the Langley Air Force Base air show. It is dated Oct. 23, 2024, and calls on Hampton residents to thank the service members for their contributions.
A group of JBLE representatives was in the audience for the recognition; Marchesse identified attendees including Colonel Dillenberger, Colson (JBLE Services), Captain Travis Winchester, Master Sergeant Therese Williams, Master Sergeant Shante Oldham, Technical Sergeant Eric Bridal, Technical Sergeant Britton Smith, Staff Sergeant Cartriel Stills, and Jeffrey Saunders of the 633rd Civil Engineering Squadron. An on‑site JBLE spokesperson accepted the proclamation on behalf of commanders who were unable to attend and thanked the city, saying, “We are only here for a short time typically, but it’s not lost on us how much support that Hampton gives to us and we also want to try and give back to.”
Marchesse announced that JBLE members would support multiple projects in Hampton on Saturday, Nov. 2. The council’s spotlight program concluded after the presentation and the meeting was adjourned.
