Council approves 3.4% ambulance rate increase under contract with PC EMS

On second reading, the City Council approved an ambulance-service rate increase under the city's franchise agreement with Paramedics Logistics South Dakota LLC (PC EMS). Staff and the REMSA board reported that PC EMS met contract requirements and recommended an increase equal to the greater of 3% or the CPI. The CPI for the year ending April 2024 was 3.4%, so the council approved a 3.4% rate increase.
PC EMS representatives were present for questions; staff confirmed the rate methodology was established in the original franchise contract. The REMSA board acted on the increase at its May 22 meeting and reported PC EMS met performance requirements for the preceding year.
The council voted 8-0 to adopt the rate increase on second reading. No public opposition was recorded during the meeting.
