City council approves multiple liquor-license transfers, routine leases and zoning actions
Summary
In a routine block of business the council approved a slate of liquor-license applications and transfers, authorized several leases and scheduled multiple rezoning items for second reading. All routine approvals passed unanimously.
The Sioux Falls City Council on Nov. 19 approved a block of routine licensing, leasing and zoning items in a series of largely uncontested votes.
Clerk read items 19–32, a sequence of new 2024–25 retail malt, wine and liquor licenses and several transfers for restaurants and markets, including Antigua Taco House LLC, Magic Number LLC, Commonwealth Gaming (Deuces Casino suites), Indian Oven and multiple transfers for Panacea Brewing Company and other entities. Jamie Palmer, Licensing, answered clerks’ questions and no members of the public requested comment. Councilor Sighetty moved approval, seconded by Councilor Basie; the council recorded an 8–0 vote in favor.
Council also approved a lease allowing the Sioux Falls School District to use five parking spaces adjacent to Howard Woodfield for trash containers for $1 per year, presented by Sean Pritchard, and passed an enforcement-easement lease for private Steel District parking ramps that allows city enforcement on what appears as public streets while leaving maintenance obligations with the LLCs (presented by Matt Nelson). Both items passed on voice vote, 8–0.
Several zoning items and first readings were set for subsequent votes. A rezoning application for 700 North Sycamore Avenue (Volunteers of America) was set for second reading on Dec. 3. Other first readings on smaller rezoning or lease matters were also scheduled for Dec. 3.
What happens next: licensing staff will finalize and issue the approved licenses; planning staff will return rezoning items for second reading on Dec. 3.
