The Sioux Falls City Council on Nov. 12 adopted a resolution to establish diagonal parking on the south side of West 31st Street between Spring Avenue and Minnesota Avenue. Heath (S9), Traffic Operations Engineer, said businesses on the south side requested increased parking and the timing coincides with road‑rebuilding work.
Councilmember Sale asked whether full‑size pickups could fit; Heath said the section measures about 47 feet curb‑to‑curb and the design uses roughly 45‑degree stalls to accommodate vehicles, with two 10‑foot travel lanes and a 7‑foot parallel parking spot on the north side.
Councilmember Sale moved the resolution and Councilmember Cole seconded. The resolution passed on a roll‑call vote, 5–0.
The measure authorizes staff to implement the striping and signage changes as part of the road project.
