Council sets Nov. 19 second reading for Westside Recreation Center lease

The Sioux Falls City Council took first reading Nov. 12 of an ordinance to approve a lease of city real property at the Westside Recreation Center. Brett Collars (S2) from Parks and Recreation told the council the lease concerns part of the building’s south side and contrasted it with the entire building’s footprint (transcript language: "Not the, entirety of the 70,000 square feet, but rather 27 100 square feet on the south side of the building").
Council clarified this was the ordinance’s first reading (the mayor noted a prior resolution signaled the intent to lease), and the council voted to set a second reading for Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024. The motion to send the ordinance to second reading passed 5–0.
The council did not adopt the lease at the meeting; staff will return with the formal second reading and any additional lease details.
