Council approves streamlined mobile‑vending rules after brief deferral

At the start of the item, council members moved to defer the second reading to Dec. 10 because Chief Toome was not yet at the meeting. After the chief arrived, he outlined updates intended to streamline permitting for mobile vendors and food trailers and to reduce administrative barriers. "This is a joint cooperation between multiple City departments to find some efficiencies, but also just to make it easier for the end user to achieve those vending permits," Chief Toome said.
Councilors then moved to reconsider the item, heard the updated presentation, and approved the ordinance on roll call by an 8–0 vote. Councilors described the changes as a citywide effort among departments to modernize permitting, and the chief said staff would be available to answer questions from applicants.
The ordinance is intended to clarify and simplify the permit process for food trucks and trailers; no separate fee or budget appropriation was described during the adoption. The council did not receive public comment on the revised ordinance at the time of passage.
