Lassner said the school is emphasizing universal design so tools used by students with the most intensive needs are available to all. “Every kid deserves and have the right to belong in our building and to feel successful and loved,” she said, urging staff collaboration across roles. She described a newly rolled‑out universal SEL screener, the SSIS, and a partnership with the Ballmer Institute to monitor SEL impact.
The principal listed concrete supports: daily SEL lessons, classroom calming spaces, a sensory regulation room, behavior‑health interns and a Caring Cougar Clubhouse to help students with intense behavioral needs remain in classroom communities. On academics she described personalized pathways linked to the I‑Ready diagnostic and small‑group interventions for reading and math to avoid lost instructional time.
During Q&A, board members and students asked how the district adapts tools for multilingual learners and what classroom observers would see. Lassner said the diagnostic tools are adaptive and available in Spanish and that teachers use technology, liaisons and differentiated communication strategies to engage families. She also said an AI translation/reading tool is being piloted by staff and will be rolled out for broader use after staff training.
The presentation closed with next steps: a fidelity/integrity assessment, a spring SSIS review and plans to engage site council and community members in January to shape implementation.
The board did not take formal action on the MTSS presentation; the report will inform ongoing site and district planning.
