Framingham board approves Portuguese Recreation Club’s New Year’s Eve hour extension

The City of Framingham Board of License Commissioners voted unanimously Dec. 16 to allow the Portuguese Recreation Club at 67 South Street to extend liquor service for a members-only New Year’s Eve event.
Manuel Marais, representing the club, said the request was “similar to last year” and described plans for a members-only champagne toast at midnight in the function hall. He told the board that if ticket sales forced a cancellation the club would honor its current 11 p.m. closing time.
The board’s motion approved the extension until 1 a.m. (Tuesday, Dec. 31 into Wednesday, Jan. 1) contingent on payment of all taxes and fees and “approval of all city departments,” including receipt of inspection documentation. Licensing chairman Stuart Bollogy and commissioners recorded a unanimous roll-call vote in favor.
The chair asked the club to notify the licensing coordinator, Audra Shaw, if plans changed so public-safety staffing could be adjusted. Marais said the club would inform staff if the event were canceled.
The approval is limited to the members-only function room; the board did not authorize expanded use of other parts of the facility.
