Williamsburg City Council honors departing commissioner and councilmember

Williamsburg City Council on the record thanked two departing public servants for their service. The council presented a formal resolution to Laura Overy, who resigned as Commissioner of the Revenue effective Jan. 1, 2024, recognizing her efforts to modernize records and billing systems and for establishing an auditor position in the commissioner's office. Mayor Ponds read the resolution and Overy received the council's commendation.
Council members also read and approved a resolution honoring Councilmember Caleb T. Rogers, who will leave the council at the end of the year after serving 4½ years. Rogers, who began his work with the city as an economic development intern, gave a short farewell in which he listed accomplishments including two new public-safety headquarters, workforce housing recommendations, the monthly city newsletter he established and new public murals. He thanked colleagues, staff and residents for the opportunity to serve.
Both presentations were ceremonial; council members exchanged personal remarks and the meeting moved on to regular business. No formal policy actions were taken as part of the farewells.
