Council OKs $3.59 million contract for New Hampstead West modular public-safety facility

The Savannah City Council on Nov. 26 approved a $3,591,375 construction contract with Jackson Locks Construction LLC to establish a modular public-safety facility in the New Hampstead West area.
City Manager described the contract as funding both permanent site work and temporary modular buildings: “A $2,300,000 of this contract ... is for all permanent work, for the site work, for the storm retention ponds, for the garage and the garage door for the fire apparatus,” staff said, with the modular units providing interim offices and a police substation while a permanent station is planned.
Council members said the measure will improve emergency response in the city’s western expansion areas, lower homeowner insurance ratings by achieving ISO service levels, and permit rapid deployment of public-safety services while the long‑term facility is developed. The motion to adopt the item passed by voice vote.
The contract covers permanent infrastructure and two temporary modular structures; staff said the modular units will be repurposed elsewhere once a permanent station is built.
