Board approves asbestos remediation contract; work to start after approval

At a special meeting, the Rockcastle County Board of Education approved a contract with Interstate Environmental Services Incorporated to perform asbestos remediation at district facilities, board members said.
Doctor Ballinger told the board the remediation "is a necessary step that we have to take prior to beginning construction," and said the contractor has been scheduled to begin work after board approval. "So they have everything ready to go, and it should be relatively easy process," Ballinger added.
Board members confirmed the remediation work had been planned and budgeted. When asked whether the expense would come from the general fund, Doctor Ballinger and other participants affirmed that it would.
Members moved and seconded approval and carried the item by voice vote. The board did not provide an itemized cost or a specific contract start date beyond the statement that work would begin after approval (the meeting noted "next week").
