The presenter also said the school reduced novice readers by about 12 percentage points and increased students scoring proficient or distinguished by the mid‑teens percentage points.
Board members thanked Mount Vernon staff and noted the board previously approved a phase‑1 playground order that has been placed and is expected to arrive soon. The presenter singled out the current fifth‑grade cohort — down from about 47 novice readers the prior year to nine novice readers this year — as evidence of progress.
