Students present food pantry, UNITE club and poster winner at Rockcastle County school showcase

At a special meeting of the Rockcastle County Board of Education, students and staff presented a school and community showcase that focused on local service and student leadership.
Miss Peggy introduced members of the fifth-grade student council and described a weekly school-adopted food box that supports a Catholic church food pantry. "Each week of the school year, a homeroom has adopted the box," presenters said, explaining that teachers and students contribute items daily so the box is replenished throughout the week.
Student council members outlined their roles — running morning announcements, participating in assemblies (including a veterans assembly) and organizing service activities. Presenters described the UNITE club’s drug-prevention activities, noting peer mentoring, team-building and education as core elements. Miss Peggy also announced a county poster contest winner and said countywide recognition will follow.
Board members and staff praised students’ efforts and thanked volunteers (Miss Sandy, Miss Catherine, Miss Leah and other school staff) for supporting the programs. The meeting record shows the showcase was presented as part of the agenda’s community engagement items; no formal board action was required on the presentations.
