The board voted to declare a parcel on Kentucky 801 North (recorded in deed book 273, page 547 of the county clerk’s records) surplus to the needs of the Rowan County Board of Education. Administration said the property is not in the district’s facility plan, has been appraised and that declaring it surplus gives the board the option to consider sale or other disposition in the future.

Later in the meeting the board moved, seconded and approved a closed session under KRS 61.810(1)(b) — which allows deliberations on the acquisition or sale of real property and discussions of proposed or pending litigation, among other items — to discuss prospective property transactions and personnel matters that might lead to appointment, dismissal or discipline. The chair stated there would be no action taken while in closed session. The board’s vote to enter closed session was carried by voice vote.
