Englewood HPC approves Section 106 response for Old Hampden Complete Streets project

The Englewood Historic Preservation Commission voted unanimously to approve a drafted Section 106 comment letter for the Old Hampden Complete Streets project and authorized staff to transmit the letter on the commission’s behalf.

Commission staff presented a short draft saying the commission reviewed the project’s findings related to National Register eligibility and concluded the planned minor work would not adversely affect potential historic features. The draft included the commission’s logo and a concise finding that the commission had no additional comments.

Why it matters: Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act requires federal agencies and certain recipients of federal funds to consider effects on historic properties. By sending a letter that records the commission’s review and findings, Englewood’s HPC is formally documenting its assessment for the project record.

Members discussed the draft briefly; one commissioner suggested a minor wording correction but said the substance of the letter stood. The commission moved, seconded and then voted in favor of the draft without amendments.

The commission’s action was procedural: it approves staff to send the existing draft rather than opening a new review or imposing conditions on the project. Staff said they will send the letter as approved and noted the project’s review materials record the commission’s finding of "no comment" on impacts to historic resources.

The commission will continue to track CLG and council study session scheduling related to broader historic‑preservation work at upcoming meetings.
