Northglenn council approves $19,000 in small nonprofit grants; program budget set at $25,000

The City of Northglenn City Council voted unanimously to approve CR 192, awarding four local nonprofit organizations a combined $19,000 from a $25,000 2024 grant program budget.
Staff told council that four agencies applied in November and requested $19,000 in total. ‘‘Staff, in alignment with the OAF committee, recommends approval of CR 192,’’ a staff member said, adding that committee members Jay Jaramillo, Rich Kondo and Adam Nowicki had reviewed the applications.
Under the recommendation, Good Shepherd Food Bank would receive $5,000 to purchase food with an emphasis on locally grown and culturally responsive items for Northland residents facing food insecurity; Immaculate Heart of Mary Food Bank would receive $4,000 for food purchases and facility maintenance; Ralston House would receive $5,000 to support forensic interviews and pediatric medical exams specifically for Northglenn residents; and Sparkling Kindness would receive $5,000 to provide full‑size hygiene kits for students distributed primarily through ODIN’s Outpost at Northglenn High School.
A staff speaker noted the committee elected not to reduce requests for Sparkling Kindness despite it being a first‑time applicant, and said the program had a $6,000 surplus that would roll over.
The clerk opened the roll call vote and CR 192 passed unanimously. The council did not record individual vote names during the on‑the‑record announcement.
Next steps: staff will proceed with issuing awards according to the council‑approved recommendations.
