District leaders report steady progress on Madison Middle, Phillips renovations and upcoming Waco Elementary bid

Contractors and the district’s architects updated the board on multiple construction and renovation projects on Oct. 17.
Jonathan Smith of Branscombe Construction showed photos and said Madison Middle School is roughly 90% dried in: framing, interior brickwork and windows are in place, ductwork and insulation work will begin soon, metal roof panels were scheduled to be installed the following week, and site crews planned base asphalt and curb work to reduce winter mud. Smith said athletic-field work is progressing and that athletic lighting and field infrastructure are nearing completion; he noted the fields themselves will be finished later in the spring.
Smith also announced Waco Elementary has been publicly advertised for bids with a pre-bid meeting on Oct. 24 and a Nov. 12 bid date; he reported strong early interest from bidders.
Tony Thomas of Klotfelter Samakar Architects reviewed the Phillips building renovation and other facilities work, including the former tech center conversion and the new Madison Kindergarten Academy. Thomas described moving personnel into renovated office space, interior finish work, elevated storage slabs to mitigate past water issues, landscaping and new paving. He highlighted the site's new artificial turf soccer field, grandstands, press box and concessions and said punch-list work remained on the former tech center.
Board members commended the visible progress and construction teams for their work. The board did not take separate formal action for construction updates at this meeting; staff said they would continue to provide progress reports and timelines as projects advance.
