Farmington — The Farmington City Council on Dec. 16 adopted Ordinance 2024 Tech 14, establishing the city’s charges and fees for calendar year 2025.
City staff told the council the annual fee review aimed to make fees more consistent and to recoup costs for repeated building-department inspections. The memo accompanying the ordinance incorporates results from a utility-rate study conducted by Ehlers and reflects prior ordinance changes that removed the park-dedication fee.
During a public hearing, no members of the public spoke. Council moved to adopt the ordinance (motion by Nick; second by Katie). A roll-call vote was taken and recorded as affirmative for the members called, and the ordinance was adopted. Staff noted the ordinance’s effective date aligns with calendar year 2025; the city attorney clarified the ordinance carries a 2024 ordinance number because it was adopted on Dec. 16, 2024.
City staff said the changes target consistency across permit and inspection processes and intend to reduce staff back-and-forth with residents by streamlining fee collection and inspection scheduling. Council members asked clarifying questions and expressed appreciation for staff and planning-commission review.
