At its Sept. 12 meeting the Shelbyville City Council handled several business and administrative items.
The council agreed to defer authorization for the city manager and attorney to negotiate with Cooper Steel over a parcel (tax map 090A, parcel 33.12) and instead will consider the matter next month. Discussion of two camera system proposals for the council chambers — a higher‑cost system near $90,000 and a lower‑cost 'Owl' approach near $6,000 — also was deferred for further consideration.
The council approved a policy recommended by the airport authority to remove a 3% annual escalation clause from long‑term land leases for named lessees and approved a four‑year, non‑aeronautical lease with Azure Flight Support for 1.3 acres at $0.25 per square foot. The council also forwarded requests from property owners (Drs. James and Elizabeth Baum) concerning large parcels to the planning commission for further study.
The consent agenda and routine items — including surplus declarations, monthly reports, and a one‑year photography services option — were approved without separate debate.
