Nueces County Historical Commission honored with 2014 Distinguished Service Award

A county presenter told the court the Texas Historical Commission (THC) honors high-performing county commissions for organizational excellence and community impact. The presenter cited THC data that county commissions provided more than 375,000 volunteer hours in 2014 with an in-kind value of $8,800,000. The presenter read a quote attributed to THC executive director Mark Wolf: "County Historical Commissions are valued partners of the Texas Historical Commission."
An unnamed member of the Nueces County Historical Commission accepted the award on behalf of Anita, who was absent for medical reasons. The representative said the recognition "is quite significant and it just makes us feel a little bit more, better for all the work we do," and thanked colleagues including Tony Nagel for their contributions.
At the start of the session the presiding official certified a quorum, announced the court was convening at 9:15 a.m. in the Nueces County Commissioners Courtroom and called for approval of the minutes from the July 8, 2015 meeting. The transcript records a motion and second and indicates the court assented; the mover, seconder and a roll-call tally were not specified in the transcript.
The court's presenters noted that the THC's advisory role for county historical commissions is outlined in the Texas Government Code. The commission members in attendance were thanked for their volunteer service and for helping preserve local history.
