Stevens High School FFA horse-evaluation team named national champions

A presenter said the team was the first from South Dakota to win the horse-evaluation event; the team was formed of four members (one current student and three recent graduates) who qualified after winning the state contest in April. Team members referenced by the presenter included Patty Timmons (senior), Kaiva Coleman, Ethan Hendrix and Elliot Hendrix; their adviser was named Jenna Hendrix.
A student representative briefly explained the contest's format, saying judges evaluate classes ranging from halter (physical conformation) to performance classes where horses are ridden through courses and graded on movement and style. Trustees congratulated the team and highlighted the variety of talents students bring to the district.
Next step: The board celebrated the accomplishment publicly and the district will relay the recognition through school communications and social channels.
