Commissioner Greg told the Huron City Commission the seller has signed the purchase agreement for a parcel behind Walmart that will allow the city to expand Gibbs Park and connect the area to the city trail network. He said the city’s original financing plan set aside $150,075 for the purchase, with $75,000 intended from donors; Greg said most donor funds have now been received and the mayor’s signature will trigger donor disbursement and finalize the sale.
Greg said the purchase price ‘‘ended up being 125,100’’ (transcript phrasing unclear). After the mayor signs, the item will return to the joint county-and-city planning process for final plan approval, he said. The commission moved to authorize the mayor to sign the documents and approved the motion by roll call.
Why it matters: commissioners said the acquisition will preserve open space and add recreational access by linking the property into the city trail program. The commission noted the purchase remains within previously discussed budget parameters and that the completed survey and plat were in hand.
Next steps: mayoral signature to finalize the purchase, then joint planning review and execution of the remaining closing steps.
