Students present goal-setting work; district highlights HOPE Squad mental-health support

The board's "Titan Spotlight" featured middle-school student presenters and a staff report on a new peer-support program.
Staff introduced student presenters Ms. Liz and Ms. Ava, who described quarterly student portfolios used for goal-setting on attendance and academic targets tied to NWEA and interim assessments. One student told the board that goal-setting and reviewing the slideshow tracking attendance and growth helped them: "That's why it's so important to set goals for attendance and, having a slideshow that you can constantly look at and see where you are," the student said (Ms. Liz, Speaker 5).
Administration also described the district's HOPE Squad program, implemented at the middle and high school. Speaker 4 said 19 seventh- and eighth-graders have been nominated by peers to serve and that the program has already resulted in three counselor referrals: "Since we kicked this off, we've already had 3 referrals to our counselor," Speaker 4 said. Staff also noted the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention presented training to the HOPE Squad during conferences.
The board thanked students and staff for the presentation and moved on to other agenda items without formal action on the spotlight items.
