Venture Elementary students showcase school as Tea Area board accepts ASBSD $1,000 award

Students from Venture Elementary presented their school’s programs and activities to the Tea Area School District 41-5 board; ASBSD Executive Director Heath Larson presented a $1,000 School Board of Excellence award from Bank West.
Venture Elementary students described classroom programs, special education services and school activities during the Tea Area School District 41-5 board meeting, and the board accepted a $1,000 School Board of Excellence award presented by the Association of School Boards of South Dakota.
Dan McCormack, identified as Venture’s school counselor and student council advisor, introduced the student council and said Venture serves 386 students with 18 general classroom teachers and special classrooms that include PE, music, library, computers and ACES. Student council members highlighted the school’s autism/TLR program, character award ceremonies and community events such as homecoming and fundraisers. “Venture is a great school for many reasons,” one student said, describing teachers who help students feel prepared for middle school.
Heath Larson, executive director of ASBSD, congratulated the district for its strategic planning and community partnerships and presented a $1,000 check from Bank West recognizing the board’s award. Larson read an ASBSD summary praising the board’s use of strategic targets across four pillars—student achievement, engaged Titans, community, and finance and growth management—and said the recognition reflects leadership across district staff and students.
The board and audience offered applause and thanks to the students and staff. The student presenters and board members took a group photo after the presentation.
