Huron School District board approves 2023–24 audit, library policies and alters employee leave after executive session

The board adopted the meeting agenda after the chair noted a set of highlighted changes, including several new hires, a contract with Let's Go Learn Incorporated and audit documentation. The consent agenda — covering minutes, financial reports, bills, six new hires (to be covered by workers’ compensation), permission to operate a summer nutrition program, permission to solicit bids for milk and dairy, and the contract with Let's Go Learn — was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Auditors from ELO presented the district’s 2023–24 audit and delivered an unmodified opinion on the financial statements and federal awards. The board moved to approve the audit and carried the motion by voice vote.
In old business the board approved policy IIAC (selection and adoption of library materials) on its second reading and adopted the high‑school library handbook. The board also completed the second reading votes with voice approvals and no recorded roll‑call tallies in the transcript.
Following a brief executive session held under South Dakota Codified Law 1‑25‑2(1) on personnel matters, the board returned to open session and voted to change Zachary Catarabic’s administrative leave from paid to unpaid, effective immediately; the motion was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
