Huron School Board adopts agenda, approves consent items and moves into executive session

The Huron Board of Education met Oct. 15 and adopted the meeting agenda by voice vote before approving a consent agenda that included routine minutes, financials, bills, 15 new hires to be covered by the district's worker's compensation plan and three resignations: Christopher Lee (special‑education paraeducator, middle school), Ida Fransen (Title I tutor, James Valley Christian School, two years’ service, effective Oct. 31) and Lacey Ashley (special‑education paraeducator, two months’ service). A motion to approve the consent agenda passed by voice vote.

Board members reviewed upcoming calendar items including a special meeting Oct. 28 in the IPC and several November schedule changes and closures. The consent agenda also noted a contract for services with Cornerstone's Career Learning Center and a fundraising request from James Stucrath for a marching band indoor exhibition planned for Monday the 28th; the board confirmed no passes will be accepted for that fundraiser.

Before adjourning to closed session, the board voted to enter executive session under South Dakota Codified Law 1‑25‑2 to discuss (1) qualifications, competence, performance, character or fitness of public officers/employees and (5) marketing or pricing strategies that could harm a business’s competitive position. The chair stated no action would be taken after the executive session. The board recessed to the superintendent’s office for the closed meeting.

The meeting opened and closed routine business without contested motions. Next public meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the IPC.
