Huron board approves consent agenda including 12 hires, five resignations and a $5,000 grant application

The Huron School District 02‑2 Board of Education approved its consent agenda at the Sept. 30 meeting, approving personnel actions, a contract and a grant application.

On the consent agenda the superintendent recommended approval of bills, 12 new hires to be covered by the district's workers' compensation plan and five resignations requiring board acceptance. The resignations listed included Nancy Kemp, a paraeducator at Washington with 15 years of service, and Jeff Nelson, a food service assistant baker at the middle school with 15 years of service; several resignations were noted as effective at the end of the school year. The agenda also listed Mitch Gaffer, a high‑school teacher and long‑time speech and debate coach, among departing employees with 40 years of service.

The board approved one contract for Mike Postma at $48.40 per hour. The agenda included a request from the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission to use a district bus to transport commissioners to a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service building; the commission will provide proof of insurance and pay driver's fee and fuel.

The district also recorded an intent to apply for Farm Credit Services of America's "Working Here Funds" grant in the amount of $5,000 to support agricultural education and school nutrition; Amanda Riley was named as the applicant. A motion to approve the consent agenda was moved and seconded, and a unanimous roll call recorded 'aye' votes from the board members and the chair announced the consent items passed.
