City Council on Oct. 1 nominated Jan Scott to serve on the Victoria Central Appraisal District Board of Directors.
City staff described the nomination process, saying the city has 839 votes in the appraisal-district election and that the council may nominate up to five candidates before the Oct. 15 deadline; the ballot will be prepared and voting by resolution will follow before Oct. 30. Staff explained the board’s administrative role (hiring the chief appraiser, setting the budget and appointing appraisal review board members), and clarified it does not set property values.
Council discussed whether to nominate multiple candidates but moved and seconded a motion to nominate Jan Scott. The nomination passed unanimously by voice vote. Staff said Scott has agreed to accept the nomination.
Council members and staff discussed historical practices about casting all city votes for a single nominee versus splitting votes among candidates; staff said casting all votes for one nominee has been the city's typical approach but the council can cast votes differently when the voting resolution is finalized.
