Lewisville —7 Jan. 8, 2024 —6 The City Council voted unanimously to name the city's partnered fire training facility the John Ashman fire training complex, honoring the former division chief of training for his service and regional impact.
Mayor introduced the proposal noting the city's partnership with Flower Mound and Highland Village to build two training buildings on the property and described current training infrastructure on the site, including a tower, apparatus bay and training props. The council moved and seconded the naming motion and the council voted "motion passes unanimously." The Ashman family and a delegation of fire department personnel were present for a group photograph following the vote.
Council and staff praised Ashman's legacy and the training opportunities the facility provides to the region; no public opposition was recorded.
