Terrell City Council postpones several agenda items, approves handbook revisions and consent agenda

The Terrell City Council voted on three procedural items during a shortened Dec. 10 meeting. Mayor Ronnie Velasquez moved to postpone agenda items 4.1, 5.1 and 6.2 to the Jan. 7 council meeting; Donna Renee Anderson seconded the motion and the council approved it unanimously.

On item 6.1, City Manager Mike Sam described proposed revisions to the City of Terrell employee handbook — chapters 5, 9 and 10 — tied to this year’s budget and intended to implement modest increases for state-licensed and certified police officers to aid recruitment and retention. "It's important for our timing of this to have this in place prior to January 1st," Sam said. Donna Renee Anderson moved to approve the handbook revisions; Phil Robinson seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

The council then approved the consent agenda as presented after a motion and second; the vote was recorded as unanimous. The presiding official noted there would be no executive session and the meeting was adjourned.

Recorded actions in the meeting included postponement of three agenda items to Jan. 7, approval of handbook changes (chapters 5, 9 and 10) and approval of the consent agenda. The meeting minutes indicate unanimous votes but do not list individual vote tallies beyond the recorded ayes.
