Haslet approves annexation for Freeman Toyota Group27s new dealership site

The Haslet City Council on Oct. 21 unanimously approved an ordinance to annex about 38.566 acres of land petitioned by Freeman Toyota Group for a planned dealership relocation.
Staff and Mr. Schweinke presented the location as parcels identified in the Hopkins Davidson survey abstracts and described the site as generally at the east end of Blue Mound Road near Harmon Road and the I-35 Southbound frontage. "The Freeman Toyota Group petitioned the city for this annexation, and they plan on moving their dealership to this location," Mr. Schweinke said during the council presentation.
Council discussion touched on extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) issues and Senate Bill 2038; staff noted the tract would be inside Haslet corporate limits after annexation and that neighboring parcels to the north had filed to remove themselves from the ETJ. Speakers emphasized that access to water and sewer is a practical reason for annexation: "Being an ETJ right now, they need this annexation into the city to gain access to water and sewer," a staff member explained.
No members of the public spoke during the public hearing. Mayor Hosey moved to approve the annexation ordinance; the motion was seconded and the council voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance.
The annexation creates a responsibility for subsequent zoning and site-plan review once the property is formally inside the Haslet city limits; staff said a zoning case will follow the annexation process and that emergency access will be gated and controlled.
