Ratepayer urges uniform privacy and meter protections in Green Cross program

Angel DeFazio spoke during the second public comment period under NRS 241.035(D), calling for changes to the Green Cross program and uniform treatment of customers with analog and smart meters.
DeFazio said the program currently permits release of medical records to a lockbox or to NV Energy and argued that sensitive health information should instead be sent directly from a physician to the utility program to reduce the risk of digital theft. "Any digital file can be hacked," she said, and recommended that when a customer requests enrollment the doctor should send medical documentation directly to the program and that packets be received within 30 days.
She also raised equity concerns about meter treatment, asking whether customers with analog meters would face the same 90-day conditions before a Certificate of Judgment (COJ) or meter removal as smart meter customers, and urged that all customers be treated the same. DeFazio expressed support for the COJ concept if it is implemented correctly and urged the commission to ensure consistent application.
Commissioner Cordova acknowledged the comment. The remarks were entered into the record; commissioners did not act immediately on the proposals during the meeting.
