The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada approved a modified hearing officer's proposed order in a show-cause proceeding that addresses companies that did not timely meet regulatory obligations for calendar year 2022 (and for the period July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023).
Hearing Officer Craino summarized that the matter was originally filed as a staff petition on Dec. 19, 2023; the commission previously granted in part and denied in part a related order filed March 1, 2024. Craino told the commission the proposed order takes various actions against "144 companies," described the procedures that gave companies opportunities to file comments and present mitigating evidence at a May 7, 2024 hearing, and noted two ministerial corrections (paragraph renumbering and a clarification about the timing of TDD surcharge remittances).
Before the hearing officer's presentation, Commissioner Brown disclosed a potential conflict: "I'm abstaining for voting on item 4a due to the potential conflicts between my previous role with AT and T and the aforementioned item before the commission today." Chair Haley Williamson moved to approve the hearing officer's proposed order with the on-the-record modifications and the motion was seconded and approved. Commissioner Brown had disclosed and recorded an abstention on the matter.
The commission issued the modified order as presented on the record; the hearing officer said he would be available to answer questions and had corrected ministerial drafting issues noted on the record.
