Council approves airport task order for construction monitoring and accepts WSDOT aviation grant

The Deer Park City Council approved a task order (2024‑12 S) for construction monitoring related to the Borderline Extension project and accepted a $12,455.13 WSDOT Aviation Division grant to support a south taxi‑lane extension.
Darrell, an airport/city staff member, told the council the city had applied for FAA funding earlier in the year and experienced schedule shifts. He said the typical funding split has been FAA 90%/DOT 5%/airport 5%, but under current BIL allocations the FAA share is expected to rise to about 95%, with the Department of Transportation covering roughly 2.5% and the airport responsible for the remaining 2.5%.
"The typical funding scenario is FAA 90%, Department of Transportation does 5%, and we the airport does the other 5%. However, next year the FAA is part of the BIL funding … they are doing a 95% grant," Darrell said. He described the task order as construction monitoring and gave an approximate monitoring cost in the $63,000 range.
Council moved, seconded and approved the task order and agreed to accept the WSDOT grant; staff noted the city would need to supply the small match (about 2.5% of the project cost) and carry the project into next year’s construction schedule.
