East Central students mark 5th anniversary of Tradition Titans running club at board meeting

Students and staff from the Tradition Elementary running club presented their program to the board, marking the club’s fifth anniversary and sharing student testimonials about its benefits.
Coaches Al Calderon and Bianca Cabasso (presented by meeting hosts) were introduced before a brief history of the club: started after COVID as a collaboration with cross‑country coaches, expanded from two to five elementary schools, and now requires applicant contracts that emphasize Titan Cove values and behavioral expectations. The club hosts weekly practices and culminates each season with a community event.
Students who spoke included Karen Massey, Joshua and Curry McCullough. Joshua described tangible benefits: "Running club helps me with my speed and breathing... it also helps me with my leg exercises... and it makes me feel proud for doing the hard work I could." Curry said the club provided "a lot of support" and helped him appreciate responsibility and teamwork.
District leaders thanked parents, the EC cross‑country team and the school board for ongoing support. The club presented trustees with a small token (healthy snacks and a badge) and invited them to attend club events.
