SHAC members invited to DAC meeting as district considers folding health advisory into broader advisory council

The SHAC host told members that district leaders have been discussing District of Innovation (DOI) amendments that would transition the Student Health Advisory Council into a subcommittee of the District Advisory Council (DAC). The change is intended to reduce the number of required advisory meetings and to provide broader representation at a single forum that covers health alongside other district topics such as GPA and school calendars.
The host said the DAC generally meets quickly with campus representatives, parents, students and district directors, and suggested that routine health updates could be rolled into DAC meeting agendas while in‑depth topics or guest presentations could be handled by a SHAC subcommittee when more time is needed.
“We meet four times a year; they meet at least three times a year... it would reduce the number of meetings and provide a broader representation,” the host said, explaining the rationale. District directors encouraged SHAC members to join the DAC meeting immediately following SHAC to observe and vote on the DOI amendments if they wish.
Next steps: SHAC members were sent a calendar invite to the DAC meeting scheduled after the SHAC meeting; the DOI amendments and any formal vote will be handled in the DAC forum and reported back to SHAC members.
