West Side Art Trail sculptures are in city possession; staff will pick median sites for installation

Members reviewed an updated map for the West Side Art Trail and discussed where to place three art pieces that are already fabricated.

Unidentified Speaker 1 presented the map and said the yellow shading indicates the easement area where the three sculptures will potentially go: "If you look at the map, the yellow is the easement area of the West Side Art Trail." The committee was told the city maintains those medians and staff will determine exact placement.

Speakers identified pieces and contributors by name: Jeffrey Brewer (catalog of works), Stephen Lee (student artist, Dallas College) and fabricator Brandon Taylor. Members emphasized that the preferred mid-lake location is HOA property and not city-owned, so the medians under city maintenance are the viable option. Several members raised maintenance concerns and noted parks budget reductions could affect long-term upkeep of installed pieces.

The committee was invited to view images on the Arts and Culture web page and will receive updates from planning staff as they select the three final locations. Members asked staff to continue coordinating placement details and maintenance responsibilities before installation.
