Parks staff provided a consolidated update on several capital and operational projects. For Hoya Park, staff said the zipline contractor will begin repairs next week with fencing and short closures; staff expect running repairs to take about a week and additional surfacing work that may require a 48–72 hour cure time for pour-in-place safety surfacing.
Venue 1842 is in a soft-open phase with limited paid events and operational challenges being addressed; staff plan to use the summer to finish punch-list items and landscape work and to move to fuller bookings in the fall. Branch Connection Phase 2 was rebid after the bond passed; bids returned higher than anticipated and staff expect to present a contract approval item to council in July or the first August meeting. For Mercer Park, staff said developer punch-list items remain and staff may amend the development agreement to let the city finish remaining work so the developer can proceed with townhome construction.
Staff also said they intend to add a park planner position to provide in-house landscape-architect-style expertise to support park projects and reduce consultant dependency. Staff will return with timelines and, where applicable, procurement or council action items.
