Maria Mentor, managing superintendent of public works, said that if the council approves the project staff will put the work out to bid and coordinate resident communications with the city communications team. "We would make sure that's that we communicate with residents and work with our communications team, Ashton, to make sure we get the word out to everybody over there," Mentor said.
Shane Davis, deputy director of public works, said design is essentially complete and the goal is to construct the crosswalk in early next year, "hopefully springtime." He described the project as straightforward but noted preparatory work will be required first, including moving a median nose and adjusting signal poles where needed before installing the crosswalk. Davis estimated construction would likely be "closer to... a month" or up to two months depending on needed traffic work.
Council members asked about resident and business notifications; staff confirmed they will develop a communication plan and notify nearby businesses on Mercer Parkway about potential short‑term impacts. No funding amount or formal bid schedule was provided during the study session; staff said they will proceed to bidding if the funding is approved on the regular agenda.
